Dr Alan Gauld

Dr Alan O Gauld, MA, DLitt, PhD (1932–2024) was a reader in psychology, having taught biological psychology and neuropsychology at the University of Nottingham. He was the author of numerous journal papers in psychology and parapsychology and author or co-author of five books: The Founders of Psychical Research (1968); Human Action and Its Psychological Investigation (with John Shotte, 1977); Poltergeists (with Tony Cornell, 1979); Mediumship and Survival: A Century of Investigations (1982);  The History of Hypnotism (1992); and The Heyday of Mental Mediumship: 1880s – 1930s (2022). He served as president of the SPR and was recipient of the SPR’s Myers Memorial Medal as well as the Parapsychology Association’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Parapsychological Research.
