Prof Stephen E Braude
Stephen E Braude (1945–2026) was Emeritus Professor and former Chair of Philosophy at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He served as President of the Parapsychological Association in 1991 and as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Scientific Exploration from 2010 to 2021. His earliest research was in logic and the philosophies of language and time. After that, he moved on to the philosophy of mind and the philosophy of science, hypnosis and multiple personality, writing extensively on the unity of consciousness, psychopathology, and the nature of mediumship or ‘channeling’. Braude published more than 100 philosophical essays in philosophical and scientific journals. In retirement, he undertook field investigations iof macro-psychokinesis. His books include ESP and Psychokinesis: A Philosophical Examination (1980); The Limits of Influence: Psychokinesis and the Philosophy of Science (1986); Immortal Remains: The Evidence for Life After Death (2003); and The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations (2007). In 2014, he was awarded the Myers Memorial Medal by the Society for Psychical Research for his “significant contributions to psychical research”.
